The Habitation of God

Habitation is defined as the state or process of living in a particular place. The Lord wants to make you His habitation through the Holy Spirit. He wants you to be His dwelling place. Fully. Not just one space of your life, not just on Sunday morning and Wednesday nights. Fully. He wants to be the sole occupant. Not one room for your selfish desires and one room for the devil to hang out and scheme. Just Him! All the rooms belong to Him, He made you in His image!

When Jesus went up to Heaven he told the disciples “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor-Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you].” John 16:7 AMP It is to your advantage! That means that even better than Jesus Christ being on Earth is the Holy Spirit living in you and me! Wow! What a revelation?! We are the sole habitation of God on Earth. We must take this responsibility and privilege seriously in order to live fuller lives and help those around us to draw nearer to the Lord.

Do you know how much a dime is worth? 10 cents. That has been predetermined and decided on. If you take that dime and you sit it on a shelf for a year, if you go outside and run it over, if you talk ugly to it, if you shine it, if you polish it, if you tell it it’s special…will any of that change the value of the dime? No, it will still be worth 10 cents. The value of a dime isn’t up for debate. It’s worth has already been settled. In the same way, our worth has already been determined, decided on, and settled. 2,000 years ago on the cross, that worth was proven!

In 2 Corinthians 5:21 we read “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God”. Wrap your mind around that for a moment. Jesus took our sin on Himself so that we could take His character, which is righteousness, onto ourselves! That is where our worth is determined. God didn’t just say “I love you so much I would give my first born for you to live freely.” No, instead, He actually did it! That is how much you are worth! Nothing else can override that determination about your worth. The price has been paid already. Your Bible is the receipt!

Pick your head up, put your shoulders back. Quit walking around looking like what you’ve been through. Quit discounting yourself because of what’s happened to you or what you’ve done to yourself. When God looks at you, He sees His own righteousness. Genesis 1:27 tells us that we are made in God’s own image and likeness. When you put yourself down, you’re really putting Him down too. Psalm 17:15 “As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake I shall be satisfied with your likeness”. What does this mean? Well where does the Bible say righteousness lives? In us! Once you are saved you have become the righteousness of Christ. We can be satisfied in His likeness IN OURSELVES! If that doesn’t make you want to shout, I don’t know what will!

So what do you do if you have read this far but you just don’t feel like the habitation of God? If you just don’t feel like the righteousness of Christ? We are so glad you asked and we’re about to tell you!

YOU GET IN THE WORD! THE LIVING WORD OF GOD!

Hebrews 4:12 says “For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” You must read the Word to put it to work in your life! You must understand and pray and prophesy His Word to see it come to pass for yourself. Not just reading the Word, but reading, studying, and praying for discernment over it. That is how you make the Word work for you! As you continue to speak and do the Word of God, regardless of your feelings, you will experience a shift in those feelings!

In closing, we want to share our prayer for you. Lord, thank you for each and every person reading this. We pray that they would all have ears to hear what You are saying through Your Word. We are speaking over every heart, Isaiah 61:3 a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of despair! We speak physical healing as well as healing of relationships! In the Wonderful and Mighty Name of Your Precious Son Jesus, Amen!
